PDF Tools
By the end of this page you'll have a PDF finished, marked, or secured.
What it does: adds a watermark or page numbers, flattens form fields, edits metadata, unlocks owner restrictions, or password-protects a file — all locally.
How to use it
- Open PDF Tools.
- Drop PDFs onto the panel, or click to browse.
- Choose an Operation:
| Operation | What it does |
|---|---|
| Watermark | Stamps text across the pages (for example CONFIDENTIAL). |
| Page numbers | Adds numbering. |
| Flatten | Bakes form fields into the page so they're no longer editable. |
| Metadata | Edits the document's title, author, and similar fields. |
| Unlock | Removes owner restrictions from a PDF you're allowed to modify. |
| Protect | Sets an open password on the file. |
- Fill in that operation's options. Watermark and page numbers take a position — Top left, Top center, Top right, Middle left, Center, Middle right, Bottom left, Bottom center, and so on.
- Start the job.
Output: the PDF Tools subfolder.
What usually goes wrong
Unlock removes owner restrictions — the permissions flags that stop editing or printing. It is not a way past an open password: a file that won't open without a password can't be processed without it.
