The bandwidth exchange

By the end of this page you'll understand the Share idle bandwidth switch and what turning it off does.

BizTray's Settings carry a Bandwidth exchange section, described in the app as: "BizTray is free because it shares a portion of your idle bandwidth through Massive. Sharing is what pays for the utilities, so they only run while it is on."

The switch gates the utilities

That last clause is the part to know. The utilities only run while sharing is on. Turn it off and the utility panels are replaced by a Bandwidth sharing is off notice with a Turn sharing on in Settings button. The Job Queue, Watch Folders, and Settings stay reachable — Settings is where the switch is.

Sharing can be changed in three places:

1. Settings ▸ Bandwidth exchange ▸ Share idle bandwidth.
2. The tray menu ▸ Share idle bandwidth, with the consequence named underneath. If it can't start, a dialog says Could not start sharing.
3. Massive's own tray icon — stopping it there shows Off · stopped in Massive in BizTray.

The status indicator

The sidebar footer and Settings both show a pill with the live engine state:

If it can't start at all

When sharing cannot run on your machine at all, BizTray shows a full-screen screen — "BizTray needs Massive running to stay free." — with a Retry button and a link to How to uninstall BizTray. Uninstalling is the honest exit and it is a normal Windows one: Add or remove programs, find BizTray, Uninstall. See Getting started ▸ Uninstalling.
